Overview and implications of the MD program training model at Duke-NUS

摘要: 本文基于杜克-新加坡国立大学医学院(Duke-NUS Medical School,简称Duke-NUS)实地调研结果,全面梳理其临床医学博士专业学位(Doctor of Medicine,MD) 项目的培养模式。Duke-NUS的MD项目旨在培养具有“医学+X”潜力的卓越医师,其课程体系由临床专业课程、临床实践训练、科研能力训练和综合素养培训4大模块组成,其中临床专业课程模块主要采用整合式课程教学模式,引入基于团队学习的教学方法;临床实践训练模块包括临床实践基础、临床见习、临床进阶训练和实习训练4个阶段,体现了早期接触临床、充分接触临床的培养特点;科研能力训练模块在研究方法相关课程的基础上,进行集中科研训练;综合素养培训模块贯穿全程,帮助学生在学业成长的不同阶段为安全行医做好准备。总之,Duke-NUS的MD项目构建了系统完善的课程体系,并改善了教学方法,其成功经验可以为我国医学教育模式改革和医学复合型人才培养提供依据和参考。

Abstract: This article reviews the training model of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) in Singapore based on the field research findings. The MD program at Duke-NUS aims to cultivate outstanding clinicians with diversification potential of ″med+ X″, which is composed of four modules: clinical professional course module, clinical practice training module, research ability training module, and comprehensive professionalism training module. The clinical professional course module primarily adopts an integrated curriculum teaching model, introducing the team based learning teaching method. The clinical practice training module consists of four stages: fundamentals of clinical practice: clinical clerkship, advanced clinical rotation and student-in -practice, embody the characteristics of early exposure to clinical practice and adequate clinical training. The research ability training module focuses on concentrated research training based on research methodology-related courses. The comprehensive professionalism training module runs throughout the program, assisting students in preparing for safe medical practice at various stages of academic growth. The MD program at Duke-NUS has developed a comprehensive curriculum and improved teaching method. Its successful experience can serve as a basis and reference for the reform of medical education model and the cultivation of medical compound talents in China.
