Exploration and practice of medical communication in the form of general courses in a comprehensive university

Abstract: In order to improve the health competence of college students, to cultivate their capacity of critical thinking on health education through media, and to promote the capacity building on their health concept and behavior, Tongji Clinical Medical College of Tongji University developed an elective course of “health, disease ,communication” for undergraduates of various majors in the form of general education. The course focuses on meeting needs of students and improving their learning and capacity of tackling to challenges. Case-based teaching and task-driven approach were applied in this course. Through case study, communication works creation and research task, the course promotes students' learning engagement and improves students' health competence. The students' creative ability, logistic thinking and creative capacity are also improved. The course has run two rounds and achieved good results, which provides useful experience for the curriculum construction focusing on capacity building of medical communication.
