Free open access medical education and its application in nephrologist training

Abstract: Free open access medical education (FOAMed) is a kind of free and open medical education activity which uses new internet technology in various forms. In the nephrology area, this has resulted in the organic and continued growth of individuals interested in using these platforms for professional development and education. Here, we review several social media educational resources utilized in nephrology education.We also review how these methods are employed together in the form of games (NephMadness), online journal clubs (NephJC), interactive learning (GlomCon), visual abstracts, videos and Interactive Live Video Learning. This paper described and evaluated nephrology FOAMed tools useful for online education in nephrology and their potential impact on the community.
