Abstract: The American transfusion medicine training program is provided by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in the form of the six core competencies that residents should acquire. The training program should develop a curriculum and implement a variety of learning activities that support residents and fellows to gain these competencies. By presenting the training and assessment of fellowship program in the United States, it is suggested that a systematic medical knowledge package, different training stages' objectives and assessment methods are necessary to strengthen transfusion training nowadays and to provide some strategies of training like the development of a special transfusion training program, in China and for China.
