Qualitative research in male undergraduates' professional identity in nursing profession

Abstract: Objective To understand the status of the professional identity about the male nursing undergraduates, and to provide a reference for the training and education of the students.Methods Adopting a convenience sampling method, we interviewed 12 nursing students in Hubei University of Medicine ,and 9 at school and 3 in clinical internship in the form of interviews, and then the information was collated and analyzed.Results 41.67% of the male nursing students was passive career, the professional identity of male nursing students was lower compared to previous years of others' research,but that was an upward trend.Conclusions Nursing education should enhance professional and ideological education, and appropriately increase the students' hands-on opportunity to deepen the reform of nursing education, improve the occupational identity of the male nursing students, and reduce the turnover rate of male nursing students.
