Problem-based learning in McMaster University School of Medicine and its inspiration

Abstract: Problem-based learning (PBL) is a new pedagogy focusing on self-learning which solves problems through cooperative learning by trainees. This paper introduces the specific arrangement and evaluation method of PBL in McMaster University School of Medicine in Canada, and discusses its inspiration to the promotion of PBL teaching in China according to the education background of medical students, so to select the practical teaching methods and teaching plans; identifying the qualified PBL tutor and to ensure the smooth transformation of the teacher's role; to strengthen the student-centered concept and to guide students to make full use of multimedia, Internet and other resources in the process of learning by PBL.
