Exploring new pathway of capacity and professionalism building of resident doctors as a response to challenge from COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract: The pandemic of COVID-19 pneumonia brings a challenge to current training system of residents which has raised the training standard in terms of prevention and control of the infection. This paper reported the experience from a medical team organized by Peking University Third Hospital that worked in Hubei province during the pandemic and this experience was translated into the requirement of competence and professionalism training of resident doctors in response to the newly emerging contagious disease (NECD). The capacity building covers the prevention and control of NECD, clinical and psychological intervention to patients suffering the disease and psychological trauma. The conclusion of this investigation may give suggestions to the remodeling of current residents'training and optimize the training outcomes to meet the needs response to the challenge from NECD in future.
