Abstract: Objective Relying on the China International ″Internet plus″ Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, investigate the project awards and the status of innovation and entrepreneurship education in medical colleges and universities, and provide reference for medical colleges and universities to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship education. Methods 1 362 medical awards in the first to eighth (From August 2015 to February 2023) China International ″Internet plus″ Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition were taken as the research sample, and statistical analysis was conducted according to the competition category, number of school awards, topic selection characteristics, etc. Results The statistical results show that New Medical (Interdisciplinary Medicine) projects account for a notable share of the total national award-winning projects in the ″Internet Plus″ Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The proportion was higher in the Higher Education Main Track[16.43%(1 108/6 743)] and Industry Proposition Track [11.75%(47/400)]. In contrast, it was lower in the Youth Red Dream Building Journey Track [7.70%( 125/1 623) and Vocational Education Track [5.75%(82/1 427)].The university with the highest number of gold awards has won a total of 20 gold awards in the high education main track, the youth red dream - building journey track, and the industry proposition track. Its achievements are particularly outstanding in the high education main track, the youth red dream building journey track, and the industry proposition track; In the medical category, biopharmaceutical and information technology service projects have a relatively large number of awards, accounting for 34.58%(471/1 362) and 21.15%(288/1 362) respectively. Conclusions Driven by competitions, medical colleges have a relatively high number of awards and overall good innovation and entrepreneurship education, but there are significant differences between different tracks and universities. It is suggested that innovation and entrepreneurship education for medical college students should be promoted under the interdisciplinary model of New Medicine (″Medicine+X″), fully considering the characteristics and needs of professional projects, forming an innovation and entrepreneurship education mechanism, and promoting the high-quality development of medical education in China.
