Abstract: Standardized patients play an important role in medical education and assessment, but encounter multiple challenges in recruitment, training and maintenance. The field of medical education is gradually incorporating virtual standardized patients due to the rapid development and widespread application of virtual reality technology. By combining the benefits of standardized patients with virtual reality technology, virtual standardized patients is possible to effectively address the challenges associated with standardized patients. In order to provide a reference for further development and applications, this paper reviews the application and research progress of virtual standardized patients in medical education, and introduces the background of the emergence of virtual standardized patients, their application, preliminary evaluation and technologies in various fields of medical education.
