Application of live broadcasting integrated small private online curriculum in teaching of pathophysiology for international students

Abstract: Objective To study the effect of small private online curriculum(SPOC) plus live broadcasting integrated teaching method in the teaching of pathophysiology for international students who were candidates of bachelor of medicine. Methods In March 2021, 57 students enrolled in 2018 for a six-year program of clinical medicine in Kunming Medical University were selected as subjects. Questionnaires and interviews were used to evaluate the learning experience of students in the SPOC integrated with live broadcasting model in pathophysiology curriculum. Results The results of questionnaire survey showed that 55.8%(24/43) students were generally satisfied with the curriculum design of pathophysiology and 55.8%(24/43) of them were satisfied with the teaching methods. The interview conclusions showed that students benefited from the content and form of SPOC and live integrated teaching method but they still complained of some weakness as compared to traditional teaching mode. They also gave some suggestions to optimize the current teaching pathway. The overall pass rate of international students was 100.0%(57/57) and the excellent rate was 36.8%(21/57).The formative evaluation showed a pass rate of 96.5%(55/57) with an excellent rate of 3.5%(2/57), a final evaluation pass rate was 85.9%(49/57) for international students and the excellent rate was 12.3%(7/57). Conclusions Application of live broadcasting integrated SPOC has been generally recognized by students, and help international students to participate in learning, but the online learning performance and experience still need to be improved.
