A review of world medical education and some thoughts on eight-year medical education program of China

Abstract: In July 2017, the State Council issued the policy of “Deepening the synergy between education and health system for promoting the reformation and development of health professions education in China”, which has epoch-making significance and means a new era of medical education in China. This paper has reviewed three generations of medical education reform in the past century, and summarized the direction of medical education development in the world. Further, the process of medical education development and reform in China has been analyzed and the idea of development lags and directions nowadays in China was put forward. Thus, a systematic thinking on eight-year medical education program was made and some suggestions on its development were given.
