Abstract: In order to explore the application effect of formative assessment in the cultivation of the core competency of residents, 94 residents who participated in the standardized residency training in Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Shenzhen Hospital in 2020 were taken as examples. This paper expounds the application of the formative evaluation led by residential training base to the design and implementation of the first year of standardized residency training, and evaluates the effect by the score of core competency evaluation and the passing rate of the first time taking the Medical Licensing Examination. The results showed that among the five modules of core competency scores of residents (full score: 30), the scores of professional literacy (21.5 points), professional competence (23.4 points), patient management (24.2 points), communication and cooperation (21.6 points) and learning improvement (20.8 points) were 1.3 points to 5.3 points higher than those of residents who participated in standardized training in 2019. The passing rate of the first time taking the Medical Licensing Examination was 96.8% (91/94), higher than 79.6% (43/54) of residents in 2019. The application of formative assessment is conducive to the cultivation and improvement of core competency of residents, the passing rate of the Medical Licensing Examination, and more independent clinical diagnosis and treatment opportunities for the second and third years of resident training.
