Teaching medical English combined with ideological and political education from the perspective of medical humanities education

Abstract: Medical humanities education and ideological and political education bear some similarities but also differences. Medical English course needs to achieve the goal of ideological and political education for medical students. On the basis of medical humanities, this paper evaluated various elements of ideological and political education in the process of teaching medical English including textbooks, stories of famous individuals in the history of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), retrieving international medical literature, guided reading of English medical news reports and learning TCM in English, so as to accurately enhance students' awareness of medical ethics, medical sincerity, medical humanities, and recognition of the concept of global health and confidence in TCM culture. The paper asserts that medical English courses should coordinate with others to cultivate healthcare talents with exquisite medical skills and noble medical ethics in the new era.
