The development of medical undergraduates’ general ability evaluation questionnaire

Abstract: Objective To develop medical undergraduates’ general ability assessment questionnaire, and analysis items and evaluate the reliability and validity of the questionnaire.Methods Questionnaire and statistical methods were adopted. The first round survey reached 483 undergraduate medical students, and the data was used to screen items, analyzing each item’s degree of dispersion, correlation coefficient, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and the degree of discrimination, and confirmatory factor analysis was adopted to examine data fitness of the established factor model. The second round survey reached 482 undergraduate medical students, and the data was used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the questionnaire.Results Medical undergraduates’ general ability assessment questionnaire contained humanistic care ability, interpersonal skills, independent learning ability, team cooperation ability, critical thinking skills and the ability to access and applications of information, and each dimension contained 7 items for a total of 42 items. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for total scores was 0.931, and six dimensions were all better than 0.700. Except for the Goodness of Fit Index (0.889) was slightly less than the standard value (0.9), the other indicators were better than the standard value, indicating that the factor model fit well.Conclusions The reliability and validity of the medical undergraduates’ general ability assessment questionnaire are all good, which can be used as a tool of measuring the students’ abilities.
