The current situation and thinking of the research skills development for postgraduates specialised in clinical medicine

Abstract: Objective To explore the current situation of the research skill training for postgraduates with specialized degree in clinical medicine and to attempt to propose the targeted recommendations and solutions, ensuring the quality of the training work. Methods There were fourty three students from the Class of 2017 at Peking University First Hospital were enrolled in the present study. Quantitative questionnaire and individual interview methods were used during the data collection in order to evaluate the current research abilities of these students and to provide feedbacks for the adoption of improvement measures of research skill. Results There were seventy-two percent (18/25) of students with master degree and 83.3% (15/18) with doctoral degree complained the heavy working load as residency the pressure from study and the lack of time and energy. As much as 80.0% (20/25) of graduates with master degree complained the deficiency in the development of training for research skills and the incapacity of scientific thinking'. Meanwhile, approximately 44.0% (11/25) of master degree students and 55.6%(10/18)of doctoral degree students faced challenge to initiate research program the methods forHaving research thinking, but can't find the entry of research,44.0%(11/25) of master degree students and 50.0%(9/18) of doctoral degree students had statistical analysis problem and 44.0%(11/25) of master degree students and 38.9%(7/18) of doctoral degree students had the English writing skills problem.Most of the postgraduates hoped to get research training. Conclusions The scientific research ability of students with specialized degree in clinical medicine needs to be improved through the rational scientific research curriculums and highly effective management methods.
