Comparison of preventive medicine knowledge and competency assessment in China and the US medical licensing examination and its enlightment

Abstract: Medical licensing examination is the well-accepted form to authenticate medical licensure in most countries. As an important component in clinical medical licensing examination, preventive medicine part mainly focuses on the assessment of preventive services and mindset in clinical circumstances. By comparing and analyzing the assessment of preventive medicine knowledge and competency in China and US medical licensing examination based on the competency requirements of clinical physicians, this paper provides several suggestions on the future development of better examination design, including building up a better assessment requirements system, improving the assessment form and technique, and raising the items proportion of preventive medicine, so as to promote the preventive medical teaching reform in clinical medical education and provide the clinical professionals more suitable for China's health development needs.
