Objective To define the status quo of career benefit and clinical communication skills of nursing interns inan affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, and explore the correlation between the two, so as to provide reference for promoting nursing interns to be benefited from nursing work and improving nursing interns' clinical communication skills. Methods Questionnaire survey was used in this study. Using convenient sampling, 241 nursing interns from an affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were selected. The career benefits questionnaire of nurses and the clinical communication skills scale of nursing students were respectively used to investigate the status of their career benefits and clinical communication skills, and the correlation between the two was analyzed. Results The score of nursing interns' career benefit was (113.63±17.92) points, positive career perception, family and friends identification and team sense of belonging dimensions scored relatively low, and good nurse-patient relationship and personal growth dimensions scored relatively high. The score of clinical communication skills of nursing interns was (85.22±18.01) points, the score of sensitive listening dimension scored relatively high, while team cooperation and verification of patients' feelings dimensions scored relatively low. There was a positive correlation between nursing interns' career benefit and their clinical communication skills(r=0.64, P<0.05). Conclusions Nursing interns at an affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University have a medium level of career benefit and clinical communication skills, and there is a positive correlation between career benefit and clinical communication skills. So, it is suggested to improve their career benefits, as well as the training of clinical communication skills of nursing interns.
