Application of Mini-CEX on improving the post competency of internship nursing students

Abstract: Objective To make discussion on the application effects of Mini-CEX(Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise,Mini-CEX)used in the clinical practice patterns of baccalaureate nursing students,in order to improve the post competency of baccalaureate nursing students and the teaching quality of clinical nursing practice.Methods To select 120 undergraduate nursing students which are divided into two groups randomly in top three level hospitals of Jinzhou city, Liaoning Province in 2016. Students in matched group were taught with traditional pattern of “master instructing apprentice” for clinical practice teaching, but students in experimental group were taught both by the traditional clinical practice and the Mini-CEX teaching patterns. Contrastive analysis the students comprehensive test scores on the post competency of the two groups after clinical nursing practice.Results The scores of students in experimental group are all higher than those in matched group, mainly on seven dimensions of assistant roles, education guidance, diagnosis function, management function, treatment intervention, quality guarantee and job roles, and there are statistical significance on the difference.Conclusions Mini-CEX could make good help on improving the post competency of nursing students, and it is worth to be applied widely in clinical nursing practice teaching.
