Abstract: Objective To explore an integrated virtual simulation application of dental cavity preparation trainings for improving hand dexterity among stomatology undergraduates. Methods 44 sophomores majored in stomatology in the Fourth Military Medical University were selected to use 2 kinds of simulated trainings including Simodont Dental Trainer Equipment (SDTE) and Advanced Simulation Dental Cavity Preparation Training Aid (ASDCPTA) from 2021 to 2022. The course was delivered in two training sessions. And all students' operation scores in each session were recorded, respectively. Meanwhile, the timespans of the O'Connor Tweezer Dexterity Test (OTDT) were separately recorded before and after training. And the questionnaire evaluated subjective training feeling of students. Paired t tests were used to analyze the differences in operation scores and paired OTDT results. Results The SDTE scores of the two training sessions were 8.27±2.84 and 8.89±2.90, respectively. The ASDCPTA of the two training sessions scores were 8.29±2.45 and 8.96±2.48, respectively. The timespans of OTDT were separately (316.80±40.64) seconds and (295.08±39.27) seconds. The training effectiveness was improved significantly (P<0.05). Questionnaire surveys showed that the sensitivities of two training applications were recognized by all students. and two methods could complement each other. Conclusions The application of two practical integrated virtual simulation training can effectively improve the hand dexterity of undergraduates, who have high level of satisfaction to these methods, which provided meaningful references for preclinical training of hand skills.
