Abstract: Peer role play (PRP) is a teaching method based on simulation. When applied in the field of medical education, medical students play the role of doctors, patients, family members and other simulated scenario-related roles. PRP has been proved to be an effective method to train medical students' doctor-patient communication skills. This paper describes the instructional design and implementation of PRP, focusing on the results achieved by using PRP training medical students' doctor-patient communication skills abroad, and summarizes the lessons of foreign research on PRP teaching in China: PRP teaching needs to attach importance to the participation experience of medical students in different roles, perfect curriculum design, and combine application with other teaching methods, so as to improve the training of doctor-patient communication skills.
