Investigation on clinical internship status quo of eight-year medical program students in gynecology and obstetrics department of Peking University Third Hospital

Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical internship status quo of eight-year medical program students in gynecology and obstetrics department of Peking University Third Hospital, and to give further targeted suggestions. Methods Questionnaire survey was used in this study. The clinical internship status quo of 35 eight-year medical program students in gynecology and obstetrics department of Peking University Third Hospital were surveyed by self-compiled questionnaires, and the related data was analyzed. Results There were 57.1% (20/35) of students believe that there were difficulties during the internship, and the major difficulties were complicated and trivial knowledge points, relatively short time to learn regulated content, too theoretical professional knowledge to understand and patients' refusal attitude to clinical training. There were 85.7% (30/35) of the students were willing to preview, and 94.3% (33/35) of them were willing to review, the textbooks or recommended reading materials were students' favorite forms of preview and review. Conclusions There are still some difficulties during the internship in gynecology and obstetrics department for eight-year clinical program students, and most of them have high acceptance of acquiring knowledge in extracurricular time. In the future, we can adopt more flexible internship modules, add online courses besides and appropriately adopt simulation tools. A sequential curriculum system should be established by reasonably utilizing the extracurricular time, in order to improve the overall outcome of clinical internship in gynecology and obstetrics department.
