The attitudes of medical professions undergraduates towards inter-professional collaboration: An investigation research

Abstract

Objective To assess the attitudes of undergraduates in medical major towards interprofessional team collaboration under current medical education and to analyze the possible influencing factors.Methods Totally 389 the health care professional undergraduates, who majored in five-year clinical medicine and preventive medicine, four-year nursing, clinical laboratory and nutrition in graduates of 2014/ 2015 in a university of medicine in Shanghai, were surveyed by Readiness of Interprofessional Learning Scale(RIPLS).Results The evaluation instrument, RIPLS shows that the median score of health care professional undergraduates was 75.00. According to the marking criterion, 252 samples has a total score higher than 71.25. By regression analysis, the correlation coefficient between demographic factors and the attitudes of interprofessional collaboration are from 0.102 to 0.300(P<0.05).Conclusions The health care professional undergraduates showed positive attitude towards interprofessional collaboration. However, the understanding of roles and responsibility was impercipient among most students. And it is essential to develop interprofessional collaboration via interprofessional education in undergraduate education.
