Application of palliative care in training of resident physicians for humanistic medicine

Abstract

Objective To discuss the application of palliative care in the training of resident physicians for humanistic medicine.Methods Resident physician who has standardized trained in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital was invited in this study. 46 cases were in this study, then, were randomized to two groups, experiment group (n=23) and control group (n=23). The experimental group was given a course of palliative care, and the control group was given a regular resident training program for internal medicine. All the cases had the medical humanities skills test and questionnaire.Results It was found that the result of the medical humanities skill's examination in the experiment group were higher than that in the control group (all P<0.05), Through the questionnaire, we found that the students focused in the medical humanities, practical ability to improve doctor-patient communication, and better deal with dying patients project than the control group, with the high satisfaction.Conclusions Palliative care teaching and practice in the training of resident physicians could improve the humanistic medical skills.
