Implementation and evaluation of teaching innovation as clinical rounds for postoperative analgesia

Abstract

Objective To explore the method and effect of teaching rounds for postoperative analgesia in patients receiving joint surgeries for enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS).Methods Eighty bachelor students majoring in anesthesiology during their internship were enrolled and randomly allocated to teaching rounds group (n1=40) and conventional teaching group (n2=40), students feedback, test scores for postoperative analgesia and patients' satisfaction were evaluated.Results Compared with students in conventional teaching group, those in teaching rounds group reported more positive feedback with respect to active learning will, mastering in skills and concepts of postoperative analgesia, more test scores and patients' satisfaction scores.Conclusions Teaching rounds for postoperative analgesia in patients receiving joint surgery in the context of enhanced recovery after surgery could improve active learning will and knowledge mastering of the students and also patients' satisfaction.
