The epidemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia highlights the shortage of professional staff in dealing with public health emergencies of major communicable diseases. Correspondingly, the scale of public health and preventive medicine training in universities is small. The teaching methods emphasize theory and light practice, which can not meet the needs of social development. In this paper, we put forward some suggestions on how to improve the quantity and quality of public health and preventive medicine personnel training and how to build public health professional training system to meet needs of the times.
