Objective To evaluate the application effect of online live video streaming combined with offline skill training in airway management during clerkship for medical students. Methods From April to June 2022,eighty-three eight-year program undergraduates majoring in clinical medicine enrolled in 2018 from Sichuan University who participated in the airway management learning during clerkship were randomly divided into experimental group and control group by drawing lots. The hybrid teaching method ofoperating room online live video steaming combined with offline skill training was applied to the experimental group and the conventional pedagogy combined with offline skill training was applied to the control group. The teaching effectiveness, including scores of written examinations, skill assessment scores, and questionnaire results were analyzed, and differences of two groups were compared by the Mann-Whitney U test and χ2 test. Results The written examination scores and the skill assessment scores of single person bag mask ventilation and nasopharyngeal airway insertion of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, 10.0(1.0) vs. 10.0(2.0), 8.5(1.0) vs. 8.0(1.5), 9.0(0.5) vs. 8.0(0.5), respectively.The scores on learning interest and favorable learning atmosphere of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group 10.0(0.0) vs.10.0(1.0), 10.0(0.0) vs. 10.0(1.0), respectively. There were all statistical differences (all P < 0.05). Conclusions The hybrid teaching method of online live video streaming combined with offline skill training played a positive effect on creating favorable learning atmosphere, improving the learning interest and the teaching effectiveness in airway management clerkship.
